Year 3 2022 - 2023
We would like to welcome you to Year 3.
Mrs Charlton is the class teacher for 3C supported by Mrs McKnight as the teaching assistant.
Miss Wallwork is the class teachers for 3W supported by Mrs Lika as the teaching assistant.
We are looking forward to working together to help your child be the best that they can!
We hope the information below helps but you are welcome to contact us on our class email at anytime : year3@horwichparish.net
Homework is set each Friday and details will be found in the each child's planner.
In year 3, we work on reading comprehension texts daily as a whole class, though some children may also continue to work on fluency and decoding via the school reading scheme. Children are encouraged to choose a book from the class library but can also bring in a book of their choice from home to school which they can read at different points throughout the week, as we want to encourage a love of reading. Please can you sign the planner on the relevant page to show that your child has read at least three times a week. We also encourage the children to complete a session on the Reading Plus site once a week. The login details can be found in the planner.
Also, the children have been given a multiplication card. It would be great if you could help your child to improve the fast recall of each times table. In year 3 we will initially consolidate work from year two on the 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables; then will move on to explore the 4, 6 and 8 times tables.
Weekly spellings will be given to the children on Friday and tested on the following Friday.
On PE day, the children can come to school in their PE kit. In the spring term our PE days are Mondays and Tuesdays .
Our project title for this half term is entitled 'Ancient Greece.' At the front of the independent research log, we have included a curriculum map of the areas being covered connected to this project. We hope this helps to ensure you are aware of what your child is learning this half term. These logs will be handed out at a mid-point in the term and a list of research ideas will be enclosed. Please choose at least one activity to complete, but feel free to do as many as you wish.
Many thanks for your support.
Best wishes.
