World Book Day

                                       World Book Day 2026

At Horwich Parish CE School, we will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. We would like the children to come to school with a book that they love to read and can share with classmates and reading buddies in other classes. They can choose to dress up as a crayon or come in pyjamas ready for a bedtime story.

We will be running three competitions on the day. Firstly, the children can choose to decorate a paper plate as their favourite book character or front cover at home. Children may also choose to prepare an extract or a poem which they will read/perform to their class on the day. Finally, they can choose to bake a book character or book cover. The best entries from each class in each competition will be selected for a grand final.

There are several online author events during the week and we will be sharing books with other classes and buddies as well as Croft House Nursery. KS2 will meet the author Jen Carney and can purchase a signed copy of her books prior to the day – see separate letter.

Keep your eyes peeled on the day as the class who finds the most Where’s Wally characters will win a prize.

Things you will need:

  • A paper plate decorated as a book character or book cover
  • A prepared reading/poem to perform
  • A book to share with friends and buddies
  • A baked book character or book cover

Every child will receive a book on the day which they have chosen:

This year, we would like every child in school to apply for a Blue Peter badge. This can only be done online and all your child needs to do is write about a book they've enjoyed reading recently and draw a character or scene from the book. Further details can be found here:

Please let us know when your child receives their badge so we can celebrate with them.

We are really looking forward to a book-filled day!
